LSM Trikke Ride 2014-01-25

Numbers mark the miles ridden.

Today was the first “Last Saturday of the Month” (LSM) Trikke Ride for 2014. I started at the Wye Park and rode north along the Columbia River Trail for 6 miles, reaching Hains Avenue in Richland before turning around and coming back to Wye Park.

  • Distance: 12.76 miles
  • Moving Time: 1 hour 40 min
  • Max Speed: 16.8 mph
  • Moving Avg: 7.5 mph

Because of the cold weather and the inversion this month I have only been able to get out 10 days this month for a total of 70.2 miles. I envy the folks that I see who live in warmer climates.

2013-07-05 Trikke Ride

Having missed riding my Trikke 2 days last week, I am back to the 4th consecutive 10-mile Trikke day. I am finding that riding my Trikke in the mornings does have its advantages. Not only is it much cooler, but there are fewer disruptions that require postponing the ride.

Day 4: Edison 2 Columbia Point Marina

  • Elevation Gain: 242 ft
  • Moving Time: 1:12:58
  • Elapsed Time: 1:16:41
  • Avg Speed: 8.3 mph
  • Avg Moving Spd: 8.7 mph
  • Max Speed: 18.4 mph

Trikke Tri-City Loop

Because of some prior commitments which got me out of the house at 7am and not home till till 3am, I was unable to ride my Trikke on Saturday which broke my 4 day streak of Trikke rides. Hopefully I will pass the 4 consecutive days of 10+ mile Trikke rides this week. My current status is always available on my MapMyRide page.

Since I was not able to ride yesterday, I decided to push myself and attempt to loop the Tri-Cities. It would be my first attempt to cross the two bridges which span the Columbia River between Richland and Pasco and between Pasco and Kennewick. I started the loop at the Wye Park in South Richland, crossed the Yakima Delta and Yakima River into Richland proper and then clawed my way up the bike path to cross the Columbia River into Pasco. The 5-mile mark was at Chiawana Park where I rode the bike path along the north bank of the Columbia River to the Blue Bridge which would mark the 10-mile mark and bring me back to Kennewick. I had to take a quick break in Columbia Park to soak my feet in the river before continuing back to my starting point at the Wye Park. 15.66 miles round trip in a little over 2 hours. Wow!

I won’t be able to ride this route often since it does take 2+ hours and is quite a workout but hopefully I can attempt it at least once each weekend. By tracking my time and overall speed I will also be able to watch my improvement.

4th day of my challenge to see how many consecutive days I can ride my Trikke 10+ miles.

For today’s ride I started at the parking lot on the east end of Chiawana Park and trikked 1 mile to the end of the bike bath at the west end of the park, turned around and trikked a little over 4 miles to the Blue Bridge. Once there, I decided to attempt to climb the slope to the top of the bridge.

I surprised myself by actually making it to the flag at the top of the Blue Bridge. My arms were worn out. The bike path ramp up to the bridge is narrow and appears not to have been swept clear in some time, the sand littering the trail making carving up the incline quite challenging. Once on the bridge walkway, carving on the windswept concrete path was much easier even though the path is quite narrow.

The path along the river is fairly well maintained. Much of today’s ride was wide and smooth. Even with quite a number of folks riding bikes and families taking evening walks, it was easy to pass the pedestrians and be passed by bikers. Some of the trail, between Road 88 and Road 92, has not been widened but at least most of it seems to have been resurfaced recently.

3rd day of my challenge to see how many consecutive days I can ride my Trikke 10+ miles.

Today I rode just short of 11 miles, starting from the Richland Wye and riding the bike path across the Yakima River to Howard Amon Park. Compared to yesterday’s ride through Columbia Park, this bike trail is heavenly. Wide, smooth, and clean almost all the way to Howard Amon Park where you encounter concrete sidewalks heaved ever so much by tree roots. I will be riding this trail more often.

Going up over the Yakima River and then back down to river level also gave me quite a bit more elevation to deal with but the inclines were not insurmountable. I had to work at a couple of the inclines but can sure tell that my hill climbing skills have greatly improved with practice
